May be they do see things in profession terms - however I think that the lighting on this makes it looks really artistic. Especially around the eyes and it gives good volume/structure to your cheek bones. I also look at a photograph in terms of how it would look if drawn.
I like the way your hair has come out on this too.
The only thing that looks strange is your nose shape - because of the light/shadow.
I think I really like this because it doesn't have lighting to make it look pretty.
You know - these preofessionals often produce work that all looks the same but with different people. This one is different and that counts for a lot.
yeah i saw that the light on my nose creates an odd shape, i think its actualy the shadow from below my eye in contrast with the harsh light on my nose.
I also look at things and think about how i would draw them. Especially since i have been seriously studying arts, trying to paint realistically. It forces me to analize shapes and shadows in the world around me all the time...
they're like very different from your usual work.. more colors, more clarity... more focus on your face maybe? Less distortion [which dont get me wrong.. I love how you can make your portraits so surreal and abstract] and in a sense these are sort of surreal with the background you've added.
But I really like the makeup and the lighting.. it's eerie.
oh yeah, i wouldnt change anything about it.. the expression is fantastic, perfect backdrop, contrast.. it works, and it works well. and i love how it looks like you're just on the verge of an incredible "i will devour your soul" kinda smile.
